The Assistant Inspector General of Police AIG in-charge of Zone Six, Calabar, Tunde Ogunsakin, has ordered the police commands under the zone to withdraw policemen attached to politicians in the state with immediate effect.

Also, Ogunsakin warned that the C4I Unit of the Department of Operations should function as a formation of the Rivers State Police Command.

He gave the order at the weekend, after a meeting he had with the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command, Mr. Dan Bature, and some other senior police officers at the State Police Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.

According to the Zone six Police boss, the directives hinged on “serious reports” of allegations made against the C4I Unit, allegedly being used by a political party against members of another political party.

Also, at the meeting was the Expatriate Supervisor of the C4I Unit, who denied all the allegations against the outfit.

The allegations further held that there were plans to frame some individuals with the connivance of the C4I Unit.

Ogunsakin further ordered the Police Officer, who heads the C4I Unit, SP Cashmir Ihiezu, to give daily situation report to the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command every morning.

“The C4I Unit of the Department of Operations must continue to operate as a formation of the Rivers State Police Command and, in that light, must not take any action or make any deployment without the knowledge of the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command.

“The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command, and other Commissioners of Police in-charge of Akwa-Ibom, Cross River and Ebonyi states, should immediately withdraw all officers attached to political appointees in line with the directives issued by the Inspector-General of Police.”

According to him: “This is premised on the fact that the Inspector-General of Police has withdrawn all previous approvals issued by him as more men are needed by the police commands during this electioneering period.

“Anyone desirous of police security should re-apply to the Commissioner of Police for a re-consideration based on the merit of his application and the need for deployment of policemen during the forthcoming elections.”

Ogunsakin further warned the C4I Unit of the Department of Operations should on no account post their officers to any political appointee or VIP. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations and the Officer-in-charge of Special Protection Unit (SPU) should take over all guard duties where the C4I unit was hitherto involved. The C4I unit should henceforth, stop featuring in political campaigns.”

Also, the AIG had mandated the Commissioners of Police in the Zonal command to enforce the ban on use of tinted vehicle glasses and to carry out a thorough search of all vehicles.

“The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command and other Commissioners of Police in-charge of Akwa-Ibom, Cross River and Ebonyi states should immediately enforce the ban on the use of tinted vehicles and vehicles with sirens in line with the directive issued by the Inspector-General of Police.
