It is a multi-tertiary care hospital with an 894 bed multi-facility capacity, information on the hospital’s website says.
KFSHRC has been providing tertiary healthcare to the citizens of the country for nearly 35 years. When it was formally commissioned in 1975 the objective was to avail citizens of proper care healthcare at reasonable cost so they do not have to travel abroad.
The centre boasts of competent staff in diverse clinical and research experience and provides medical services of highly specialised nature. The hospital, named after the late Saudi monarch King Faisal bin Abdul-Azeez who donated the land and laid the corner stone for the structure in 1970, is vast in the field of medicine.
It has four centres which include a Research Centre, King Fahad National Centre for Children’s Cancer and Research, King Faisal Heart Institute and Oncology Centre.
Some of the medical services the hospital provides include anaesthesiology, dermatology, dentistry, liver transplant, critical care medicine, pulmonary medicine, neurology and psychiatry care among others.
President Umaru Yar’adua is known to have a chronic kidney problem and the hospital also provides nephrology medical services. Nephrology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study and treatment of diseases of the kidneys. Services related to this medical problem which the hospital offers include kidney transplantation and dialysis. KFSHRC also has outpatient clinics and nephrology and renal transplant wards.
