A Nigerian man, Michael Akpan, has been dragged before Justice Kudirat Jose of a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, to answer questions on how he duped a Vietnamese businessman, Kim Son, of the sum of $7, 920 (about N2m). The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), had swung into action and got Akpan arrested after Son had written a petition on the scam after he had entered into a business deal with Akpan on the Internet for the supply of cow horns but when he waited in vain for the consignment to be shipped to him, he realised that he had been taken and fired a petition to the EFCC. Akpan has been charged with a one-count charge bordering on stealing, contrary to section 185 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011. In the court, Akpan admitted collecting the money but did not fulfil the contractual obligations to the Vietnamese nor make any refund of the money paid to him. Besides, after collecting payments for the cow horns, he reportedly stopped communicating with the complainant. Justice Jose ordered that he be remanded in Kirikiri maximum prison and adjourned the matter to June 18 and 22, 2015 for trial.
