I believe to much emphasis is being placed upon the financial as related to making relationship decisions, at the end of the day both parties should be capable of sustaining themselves.

Neither.  I don't like stingy guys simply because I am a giving person and I cannot stand stinginess in anybody.  The unattractive spending guy is also not datable because I have to be physically attracted to who I date.
