The anti-robbery squad has arrested a five man criminal gang for strangling a cab driver, Sonye Chukwudi, to death over N4500.
The victim, popularly known as Zack Friday was allegdly tricked by the robbers who told him to come to the Ransome Kuti gardens, Anthony Village because they thought he had a lot of money.
Only after he had been bound, strangled and killed did they realized that the 32 year old driver had nothing but his phone and N4500 in his pocket.
According to Reporters, the robbers, Anthony Toms (20), Godwin Francis (25), Michael Inyang (21), Evidence David (22), and Etuk Tony (23) hid the body of the deceased inside the garden and were just about to flee in the victim’s vehicle when they were caught by the police.
The man who was supposed to drive the criminals away alerted the police of the crime and the police followed him to location. When the driver of the robbers was called by the criminals, the police surrounded the place and apprehended them. Two of them were shot in the legs as they tried to resist arrest.
Speaking on the murder, one of the killers said: “I am a gardener. I work in that garden at Anthony. I met the man about two years ago. That day, I just wanted to collect the money and steal his car, which we estimated at about N2m. He struggled with us and died in the process.”
The robbers assumed the man was rich because he had a car. Such sad news.
