Oni Omolola Theresa also known as Tracy Jesu lo le se is a fast-rising gospel and praise singer who hails from Ekiti State and is currently making waves with her style of music in heart of Ijebu. The daughter of a professional singer for a father; Awoko and an educationist for a mother has had all the support from her parent during her journey into the music industry. The young songbird had a brief interview with City People’s DANIJI EMMANUEL where she revealed the interesting story of how she found herself in music and the factors that motivated her into the art.
How has the journey been so far?
It’s not been easy and we still pushing further but we give God the glory. I debuted my album last year and it launched in Ijebu Ode where I am currently based and have a large growing fan base.
How did music start for you?
Music runs in our family, music flows in our blood. My dad had to cry while singing alongside me on my launching because we all sing but I was the first to bring it out professionally after my father. My Brother and Sister have since decided to venture into music too professionally. They both rap and do hip-hop, more so I featured my brother on two of the track on the album.
How many tracks are on the album?
There are 8 tracks on the album
Did you feature any major artiste(s) on the album?
No, my brother is the only feature on the album and he featured in 2 tracks.
Who are your influences in the industry?
There are quite a number of them, I love Aunty Tope Alabi, she’s a friend, an aunty and more, she’s a big inspiration to my musical career. I love her so much as far as the fact that I know all her songs. Most of the times while working at home, I would find myself singing her songs, and I would sing them all accordingly. There was a time my mom even teased me that won’t I go look for her because of the way I was so into her and her music. It’s the same for Aunty Bukky Akinade (Shenlewe); I love her style and everything about her. I also love Opelope Anointing too, and Aunty Bisi, I met her only twice.
Any plan to feature them soonest?
If I am privileged to feature any of them on my song or even get featured on theirs, I will, because I love them.
What are the challenges you face in the music industry?
Being a lady I must say, if I wasn’t to be a lady, I would properly have gone farther than where I am today.
What gigs have you performed in?
I’ve mostly done Crusades and Church programs and I’ve done social gatherings like twice.
Why the choice of the genre; Gospel?
I’ll say, my Dad influenced that because of the time he’s singing at home, he is always singing the tune “Olodumare” with his Ekiti tonation and language and most times he includes our names in to the worship song, so growing up around such genre of music influenced me. I am also a chorister in my church; I passed through the entire choir level right from children to teen to adult choir. There was a time the church choir did an album and I wasn’t around. They all selected themselves and went ahead to release the album. People kept asking me why I wasn’t on the album and I told them I wasn’t informed about it. I believe it was totally sentimental and they used my absence as an opportunity to leave me out. I actually bought the album, took it home, listened to it and told my parents that I was definitely going to do music and release my own album, this was about 6years ago. So I did set out to work on the side to make some money for recording, the first money I took to the studio, the producer ran away with my money, so I gave up for a while and said I wasn’t singing again. Later on, I tried my hands on it. For every time I felt like giving up, something actually fills my spirit: either I wake up with a song in my dream and then forget it again once up. All these happenings eventually persuaded me that it wasn’t about retaliating to the choir members who released the album without me, that it was definitely spiritual and what God wanted me to do.
Do you have plans to do something outside the gospel genre?
Yes, I graduated last year from Olabisi Onabanjo University, July 5 and 5 days later was my launching, back then in school I had a shop which I managed myself, the shop still exists but my younger sister is the one running it for me because I barely have time on my hand to shuffle between my music career and my shop. Normally I don’t like working under anybody.
Let’s talk about your relationship, is there a man in your life?
I used to have a man in my life but I really need to add this; I need to say that the heartbreak I experienced from my past relationship really motivated me to take my music serious because the heartbreak really affected me and my music was my only console. I dated a guy for 7 years and 3 weeks to our introduction he came up with excuses that we couldn’t go on, it was even the week he sent me our introduction dress. It was like I would die but the Lord kept me through the pain. I had to look for something to keep myself happy and I decided to face my music, since then I haven’t been with any other guy.
