Coming to look at it from the right point of view i think the boy's father did play the role of a good father and a good Nigerian trying to redeem his own image and Nigeria as well by informing the US embassy of his son's extremist aspirations , Yes Nigeria has been marked for the first time its citizen is trying to blow up an American plane with al qaeda links but this is more of a devilish mind terrorist act which shouldn't affect the image of Nigeria as a whole or any Nation whose citizen has been involve in terrorist activities as we also know that some US citizens have been involve with terrorist activities against their own country and with links to al qaeda . Terrorist is one of the evils facing our world today just like poverty , corruption , illegal drugs , slavery etc.

What happened  has exposed the ignorance of  many citizens of a great nation like Nigeria. The world of terror is not a monopoly of the muslims. The Irish republican Army, the Tamil Tigers, The Kanakazis of the second world war. The Oklahomer city bomber, Timorthy Mcviegh and the recent Bolivian Parliment Bomber. Are all a mixture of adherents of diffrent religions, not just Islam.
Sucide bombing , is a political ideology not a religious principle or virdict.
The Quran never preach sucide attack or killing of one self or taking the laws into thier own hands. Blame the western media, they dont report such acts, untill it comes from muslim nations

From the recent acts it seems, that al qaeda is using nigeria as a basis of terror. If the international nations do not react urgently, it could lead to more cruelful things than the already slaughtering of the christians in the north, the letter bombs in lagos and the failed plane bombing. GOD beware the nigerian nation from another civil war or something like that. If the only option for peace would be separation of the country in minimum 2 pieces, then let s do it.

Wise ppl know, that not all ppl r the same. Sure, terror is not only a question of muslims nor nigerians. iam living with many nations and muslims in my neighboorhood in peace. Wise ppl will take every person as individuum. But security has to start from somewhere. cause of the failed plane bombing is normal that nigerians and muslims will be screened deeper than others.

Nigeria is not organized country anymore. The image is already damaged now. One cant blame always and only others for it. False praising of the nigerian country would also not blind ppl for the true picture of nigeria.

Tougher US air screening for 'terror-prone' countries

The new screening comes into effect on Monday

President Barack Obama condemned lapses following the alleged Christmas Day bomb plot against a US plane.
He promised "to act quickly to fix flaws" in the security system.

I do not see this as a fair comment on the part of the old man who did what was humanly possible to inform the relevant authorities regarding his son's plight against the civilized world .

It is more sensible to check your facts out and not just generally assuming facts you cannot verify .   Of course this is a very sensitive issue as you might probably appreciate .   Its good to keep the points to context and not just dream or fantasize some imaginary pleasant comments to aggravate already gory situation.  I would rather keep my mouth shut till i know what i am talking about .   You had other good points not that one ..

Of course the world eyes are once more upon Nigeria. Will it damage your image or economy?
Not in the long run as hey whats the diff already. Was it easy for Nigerians to get a visa abroad before? Will they even pull the string tighter on you then what they already did? Economy wise dont think that will change at all. As the west needs more from Nigeria then Nigeria from the west.
But yes you will be in extra focus for a while to come.

 But is this justified?

Or .........................is it like 9/11, or the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq who were never found a stuff up by  American itself and they want to put the blame to someone else again, so as not to be seen inadequate themselves? America was forewarned in all the above mentioned and choose to ignore it.
Same with this boy once again. With all the information given to them on a silver plate they still stuffed up big time.

To me it doesnt matter if he is a Nigerian, German, Afgany or Dutch citizen as no government can protect every body of fanatic people. They are found in any race and religion. They kill because they are fanatic and are brainwashed. Dont know how many of you have young teenage children but just look at them how fast they can be converted to some wild idea. No matter what sort of upbringing they have had.

Its fanatisme whats so dangerous in this world today and its this what should be addressed.

In my own opinion dolphinkate making the above statements is goofing big time !!

It appears you are reading the news upside down and not following the trend of event as it really happened and as relates to this particular muttalab case .  the training and arming of the young retard chosen for the mission .   you also air your own personal opinions as if they are authentic facts verified and authenticated but most of your guesses are baseless and this makes u sound like you are talking absolute crap.

So what exactly do u want the international community to do against Nigeria now because of the phyuk up of some gullible renegarde picked upon by some die hard opportunists ?

Do you relate your comments to the reaction of other nigerians who came out to openly denounce the action of the boy in other forums worldwide. ??

I know what iam talking about. The slaughtering of christians in the north, the letter bombs in lagos and also the failed plane bombing r facts. Secondly  everybody is free here to air his own opinion. What s ur problem? And yes, i dont use to follow the trend, i use to build my own mind, based on facts. i get my informations from news, special organisations and nigerian friends. Ur country is not new land to me.

Dividing of a nation on basis of religion is simply a stupid option. And maybe you dont look far into this or history at all.

Look back less then 100 to 200 years ago the killing and burning on the stake in European countries of people from different religion.
OOOPS did i say different religion?Huh?Huh??
Nope they all believed in the same thing they were only called Protestants and Catholics. No Muslims here at all just yet and still killings occurred
Look at Holland for instance with there dominant Protestant north and Catholic South. Should it have been divided?

Nope the best solution is education, tolerances and in the end the problems will resolve itself.
As so much of the problems we have now we should  looked back at the Christians in the first place.

@ Helga

Read my statements proper pls. i never said to devide nigerian nation on basis of religion. i said for the peace sake to devide it in minimum 2 pieces. That s a difference. Secondly i use to preach many times, that we should not judge muslims, that the average muslim does practise his religion in peace, that only the terrorists trying to misuse the koran for their insane cruelful plans. I grew up with ppl from many nations and different religions and still living with many foreigners with different religions in peace. My opposite door neighboors r muslims for excample. So how dare u to turn my words into different thing, which i have never said.

Quote
It’s detrimental to the welfare of Nigerians abroad: Pastor Pius Osombor
When I heard about it, I felt sad. The situation is detrimental to the welfare of Nigerians. I am concerned about Nigerians living abroad, especially in the United States of America. They would definitely be treated badly, as citizens from a terrorist country. This development is not about Muslim fanaticism. It is about an individual deciding to use himself as a tool for destruction. The boy was used to disgrace Nigeria.
I really feel bad about this. My prayer is that God should the heart of the Americans so that they won’t use this as a yardstick against our brothers abroad.

Quote
Nigeria is not a terrorist country: Vincent Uche
The way and manner it happened, it would definitely have a negative effect on Nigeria’s image. Though Nigeria as a country has always been viewed negatively, we are not a terrorist country. We are just unfortunate at this stage.

Quote
American would no longer respect Nigeria: Biodun Adedokun
This can destroy Nigeria’s image completely. Americans would not respect Nigeria again. Somebody like that boy should not be among living people. It is a big problem for us. The young man should be thoroughly dealt with.

Quote
It is a big stain: Humphrey Haruna
It would further destroy Nigeria’s image. It is a big stain that would take time to clear. For such a boy from a rich family to embark on that type of mission, he must be possessed. He needs help.

Quote
No right thinking individual would support a terrorist act: Orji Ikechukwu
When you hear about Al-Qaeda, the first thing that would come to your mind is Muslim. But we should not forget that Nigeria is a secular state, not a Muslim state. What I am trying to say is that Nigeria does not engage in this type of act carried out by this boy. If he had succeeded, innocent lives would have been lost. No right thinking individual would support a terrorist act. It is not good for us. We are talking about re-branding Nigeria’s image. Now, look at what has happened.

Quote
Nigeria would be seen as a terrorist country: Oluwadare Happiness
The boy is talented and has ability but was channelled into a wrong course. We have such people in Nigeria but because of the nonchalant attitude of our leaders, they waste away, while those that want to be very useful get involved in things that can destroy their lives. Presently, what that boy did is like a black stain. The world would now see us as a terrorist country. Our youths have potentials that should be well harnessed. If not, the result would be this type of shame.

Quote
Why go to America?: Alhaji Yakubu Usman
Nigeria is definitely finished internationally. Terrorists don’t rely on religion to work. They can use either a Christian or Muslim that has a willing heart. My question is, why go to the America when we have corrupt leaders that should fall victims. It is unfortunate that this is happening at a time our image is battered. Once he is okay, the American government should deal with him according to their law. Can you imagine the number of passengers on that flight and what could have happened to their family if the boy had succeeded? Why didn’t he blow up his family?

Quote
The boy is frustrated: Friday Ehis
I don’t think the boy’s attempt to blow up an American plane has anything to do with Al-Qaeda. Maybe, the boy is frustrated. I don’t think the action would have a negative effect on Nigeria’s image because the whole world knows that we don’t support terrorism. He carried out the attack on his own. According to his confession, he was taught to operate the device but really couldn’t do it. We are a peaceful country. We want peace and not destruction.

Quote
It would add to our battered image: David Ahamefula
It would add to our already battered image. Al-Qaeda infiltrating Nigeria is out of it. They must not be in Nigeria to use Nigerians for their operation. All these fanatics can use anybody that is willing to carry out their devilish acts.

Quote
A Nigerian doesn’t have any business with terrorists: Sanni Yakubu
We are not happy that everything in this country is going bad. The government is very sick. There is no food and petrol. Crime is increasing daily and now this. We need Allah’s help now. A Nigerian doesn’t have any business with terrorists. Our faith does not support shedding of innocent blood for no just cause. We should thank Allah that the young man did not succeed. If he had succeeded, all of us would have been in serious trouble.

Quote
Nigerians should pray: Blessing Nwanchukwu
It is a pity that while we are trying to cover our bad image, others are busy exposing it. I was extremely shocked when I heard the news. The boy is too small to think of such devilish act. He is not alone in the act. Nigerians should pray because these are the signs of the end.

Quote
Hijacking hasn’t been part of Nigeria: Marcel Onwuka
There must be reason behind his action. He must have carried out the operation with serious grudge. Hijacking has not been part of Nigeria. He must be collaborating with some people because I can’t imagine how he managed to escape from all the airport’s screening devices.

Quote
The boy needs deliverance: Kindness Nkiru
I don’t think such person is a Nigerian. For goodness sake, the boy is just 23 and is too young to carry out such critical assignment. He is not a good citizen. The boy needs deliverance

Have you experienced any incident as a result of this boy's action? or do you have any comment to add, please post it blow
