It is so unfortunate how the sin of one insignificant man can be used to condemn a nation of over 150 million people. Nigerian are not known for terrorism and the fact that the father of the suspect literally exposed his own son; shows that Nigerian do not support bloodshed. We may have some forms of unrest which is normal; develop worlds have instabilities and riots once in a while. According to the FBI, between the years of 1980 and 2000, 250 of the 335 incidents confirmed as or suspected to be terrorist acts in the United States were carried out by American citizens.
Many examples of American Domestic and Foreign Terrorism can be given:
The Oklahoma City bombing which occurred on April 19, 1995 when American militia movement sympathizer Timothy McVeigh, with the assistance of Terry Nichols, destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.[1] It was the most significant act of terrorism on American soil until the September 11 attacks in 2001, claiming the lives of 168 victims and injuring more than 680. The blast destroyed or damaged 324 buildings within a sixteen–block radius,[4] destroyed or burned 86 cars, and shattered glass in 258 nearby buildings. The bomb was estimated to have caused at least $652 million worth of damage.
Bombing of Los Angeles Times building. The bombing of the Los Angeles Times on October 1, 1910, which killed 21 people. The brains of this crime were the McNamara brothers (James and John McNamara), two Irish-American brothers who wanted to unionize the paper. The McNamaras became a cause celebre amongst the labor movement in the United States, though their support eroded when they admitted their guilt.
The Wall Street bombing which was a terrorist incident that occurred on September 16, 1920, in the Financial District of New York City. A horse-drawn wagon filled with 100 pounds (45 kg) of dynamite was stationed across the street from the headquarters of the J.P. Morgan Inc. bank. The explosion killed 38 and injured 400. Even though no one was found guilty, it is believed that the act was carried out by followers of Luigi Galleani.
From 1978 to 1995, neo-luddite radical and former mathematics professor Theodore "Ted" Kaczynski - known by the codename "UNABOM" until his identification and arrest by the FBI - carried out a campaign of sending letterbombs to academics and various individuals particularly associated with modern technology. In 1996, his manifesto was published in The New York Times and the Washington Post, under the threat of more attacks. The bomb campaign ended with his capture.
The Centennial Olympic Park bombing which was a terrorist bombing on July 27, 1996 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States during the 1996 Summer Olympics, the first of four committed by Eric Robert Rudolph, former explosives expert for the United States Army. Two people died, and 111 were injured.
The 2001 anthrax attacks in the United States occurred over the course of several weeks beginning on September 18, 2001. Letters containing anthrax spores were mailed to several news media offices and two Democratic U.S. Senators, killing five people and infecting 17 others. In mid-2008, the FBI narrowed its focus to Bruce Edwards Ivins, a scientist who worked at the government's biodefense labs at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland. Ivins was told of the impending prosecution and on July 27 committed suicide, by an overdose of acetaminophen.
It is no news that American law-enforcement officials have also long struggled with a range of U.S.-based terrorist groups. Domestic extremists who include hate groups motivated by ultra-conservative ideals that are often anti-Semitic and racially motivated; ecoterrorists who use violence to campaign for greater environmental responsibility; and socialist groups who oppose the World Trade Organization. While homegrown Muslim extremists have proven more lethal in Europe than in the United States, U.S. authorities continue to worry about the prospect of attacks by militant Muslims who are American citizens. Domestic extremists have a “longstanding trend” of committing terrorist attacks on U.S. soil, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s 2002–2005 Terrorism Report (), the bureau’s latest comprehensive report on such incidents.
When José Padilla (prisoner) (born 1970), a U.S. citizen was convicted of lending support to the al Qaeda terrorist organisation, why wasn’t America Black Listed among the terrorist Nations.
We can go on and on with many incidents that involves Americans. I think there should be a rethink on the black listing of Nigeria as a terrorist nation, after all, he was training in the UK and brain washed but the Nigeria in him made him hesitant to kill himself because it is not our nature. If he truly wanted to bomb the plane, at the moment of truth; he could have activated the bomb in the bathroom and ignite it just as others in the 9/11 world trade attack. It is not in our nature to kill ourselves even if we want to kill our ark enemies we can never take our own lives. The hope that tomorrow will be better keeps us alive and positive.
