A Nigerian news blogger, Desmond Ike Chima, has been arrested by the Federal Criminal Investigation Department over one of his stories
The story in question involves Managing Director of the United Bank for Africa, Phillip Oduoza, and superstar actress, Genevieve Nnaji.
Chima was prosecuted before a Igbosere high court, where he was read a 5-count charge of felony.
According to the prosecution, Chima had written an article titled “Randy UBA MD, Phillips Oduoza In Adultery Mess, Romances Star Actress, Genevieve Nnaji.”
The aim of the article was to allegedly extort money from Oduoza.
The Charge read in part: “That you Desmond Ike Chima and others still at large at the said date and place did publish or distribute an article deemed to be obscene against Phillips Oduoza entitled: RANDY UBA PLC MD, PHILLIPS ODUOZA’S WIFE TO DIVORCE HIM OVER AFFAIR WITH ACTRESS GENEVIEVE NNAJI.”
Chima pleaded not guilty to the charges, and was granted bail to the sum of N100,000.

He shld be jailed if d allegation is false. Habe, we so many musroom journalist and bloggers who enjoy breaking homes, who enjoy pple die for they wrote abt them and so many negative information and deformation of character. Dats bad na

Is this not more of a civil case than a criminal...? The man or the lady can sue for being slandered. Those that are stealing billions are not being prosecuted.

So basically they are throwing out the basic fundamental human rights of free speech, all these rubbish is just an indication of the impunity that Gen. Buhari has handed to all these political office holders, I thought we should be in democratic regime, things like this throws us back to the dark ages of military dictatorship, I hope the poor chap is able to regain his freedom, cos at this stage, honestly he is on his own because no one wants to risk being arrested with him unfortunately

Naija.missing everything This a pure civil case.wetin concern police with this? In a country where the rules of law are respected, the person concern supposed to sue in a civil court without passing through police

In this country, when u are charged to court, all u jst have to do is plead not guilty, and they will grant u bail, u pay the money and u are out... Finish

A blogger arrested? What happened to freedom of speech? A democratic society in deed. Whereas all the criminals called politician loot our money and still dance around at Aso Rock. I'm glad he pleaded not guilty, his lawyer will fight it court. Genevieve has PR to refute such claim/blog before Feds would leave their burning house to chase mice.
