The Ekiti State Police Command has asked the State Security Services in the state to produce one of its operatives allegedly responsible for the killing of a police officer, Sylvester Malik. Mr. Malik was allegedly shot on Tuesday by the SSS operative when he and one Corporal Mough Tergu escorted a former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Femi Thomas, to the SSS command in Ado-Ekiti.
They were said to have resisted attempt by the SSS operatives to disarm them before allowing them into the premises of the agency, thereby resulting in a brawl and one opened fire on the other. While Mr. Malik was said to have died instantly, Mr. Tergu is said to be in a critical condition following severe bullet wounds. Police Public Relations Officer, Alberto Adeyemi, accused the SSS of shielding the officer who shot and killed the policeman. He said the SSS State Director, Duke Fubara, should produce the suspect to face trial for murdering the police officer in cold blood. “In fact, the DSS is shielding the suspect and we are still waiting for them to hand him over to us,” he said.
