Ex-militants in Akwa Ibom have expressed reservations over last Friday’s Appeal Court ruling, which sacked Governor Udom Emmanuel.
They have however expressed optimism that Emmanuel would emerge victorious in any event of a rerun should the Supreme Court affirm the judgment of the Appeal Court.
The State Secretary of the group, General Edoho-Ukwa Paul gave the assurance while interacting with newsmen in Esit Eket Council area yesterday.
Paul explained that the Governor has left no one in doubt of his capacity to turn around the economic fortunes of the state within the few months he has been in power.
“I am very sure that PDP will win the governorship rerun election because PDP in Akwa Ibom is like a religion and already we have seen the achievement the party had recorded in the state.
“Akwa Ibom is predominantly a PDP state such that if a rerun is conducted 10 times, PDP will still win the governorship election,” he said.
He described the judgment as politically motivated and a ploy by the opposition to hijack governance in Akwa Ibom.
“APC government is looking for how the party will take over Akwa Ibom state. We will not accept that and we cannot take it and any attempt to collect it, we will revolt and go back to creek and ensure there will be war in this part of Niger Delta state.
“We here in Niger Delta are not happy with the Appeal Court ruling, we see the judgment as influenced by the presidency to see how APC can take over Akwa Ibom state.” Paul said.
He explained that the PDP in the state had unanimously agreed that the governorship position be zoned to Eket Senatorial District as it was their turn.
He therefore called on supporters of the PDP to remain calm while awaiting the Supreme Court judgment.
