Super Eagles Soar To Emphatic Victory
Nigeria showed their class against neighbours Benin while Senegal squeaked past Guinea.

Nigeria's home-based Super Eagles began their campaign in this year's West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup with a 4-0 win over Benin Republic in Abeokuta on Friday.

Gbolahan Salami, ThankGod Ike, Gabriel Reuben and Chinedu Ezimorah scored the goals that eased the pressure mounting on Daniel Amokachi after the team's loss to Niger in the CHAN qualifiers two weeks ago.

The Nigerians started off tense as they tried to impose their authority in the opening stages but missed a couple of good opportunities to go ahead.

Salami converted a penalty on the hour mark to give the hosts some respite before substitute Ejike Uzoenyi sent in a corner kick that saw defender Ike head home for a second.

Nigeria then picked up a third goal when the forward jinked his way down the far side, taking two defenders along with him before squaring a cut-back into the gaping hole they had left behind for Reuben to side-foot a fine finish.

Uzoenyi was involved again in the last goal, sending a cross field ball to Ahmed Musa on the opposite side.

Muse then broke with pace and laid on a low ball across the face of goal for the simplest of tap ins by Amokachi's final substitute Ezimorah, who had been on the pitch for just about a minute.

In the other game in Group A, Senegal defeated Guinea 3-0.

Ghana will play against Togo and Burkina Faso will come up against Liberia in Ijebu Ode.
