The Ijaw Youths Council, IYC, has reacted to the killing of a British national. Ian was killed by the suspected kidnappers while three others were released and returned safely after Nigerian authorities negotiated their freedom. IYC described the incident as unfortunate and highly condemnable, noting that it did not reflect the character of Niger Deltans.
A statement by IYC President, Eric Omare, maintained the death of the Briton was a case of criminality and should be treated as such.

IYC urged security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible.
“We again call on community and traditional leaders to support security agents to help in fishing out criminals from their communities”,
