An unnamed Nigerian gay man is set to get married to his long term Kenyan boyfriend, Kenneth Binyavanga Wainaina, who was the 2002 Caine Prize winner for African Writing. Wainaina, an acclaimed African literary giant and founder of the Nairobi-based journal, Kwani, is set to wed early next year after he proposed to his lover whom he has dated for over six years.He is, however, silent on the identity of the said Nigerian. He shared the news of his proposal on his Twitter handle on Wednesday: I knelt down and asked my love for his hand in marriage two weeks ago. He said YES. We will be married in South Africa early next year. I am beside myself with excitement that he has agreed to spend the rest of his life with me. Standard Media Kenya added that the author and his partner will be living in South Africa where his partner will be studying. The acclaimed author heaped praise on his lover, saying he was a “gentle” person with the “most gorgeous heart;” and promised a grand reception in Nairobi. In response to the outpouring of messages on his Twitter feeds, Wainaina hinted that there may be a Nigerian party sometime next year to celebrate his marriage. WEDDING RECEPTION Although the wedding will be held in South Africa, Binyavanga has promised his Kenyan fans of a grand wedding reception in Nairobi. "We will have a reception for Kenyans in Nairobi sometime next year too. Nothing has surprised me more than coming to love this person, who is gentle and has the most gorgeous heart. I consider myself hugely lucky that he loves me and I have only recently fallen in love with him, but we have known each other and have been dating on and off since 2012," wrote Binyavanga.
