A jaw-dropping incident occurred at Ikolaba area of Ibadan, Oyo state capital on Friday August 21 as some gunmen armed to their teeth attacked some policemen near the police station in the town.
The reason for the attack remains unknown as of the time of filing this report. The Gunmen reportedly shot sporadically into the station as they came into the premises.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Olugbenga Fadeyi confirmed the incident to newsmen.
The police statement read;
At about 9 pm of 21/08/2020, two Policemen who were attached to Ikolaba Police station who were at the other side of the road of the station were attacked by hoodlums in a moving vehicle. In the process, one Police corporal was shot dead while one inspr was injured and he is recuperating in the hospital while the hoodlums ran away.
Also in the statement, it revealed that:
The Police station was not attacked. Immediately, the Commissioner of Police got wind of the incident, he gave the marching order to all Police Tactical teams including SARS, SRS, SKYNET, FEDERAL AND SAFER HIGGWAY PATROL TEAMS, PUFF ADDER TEAM ETC to be on the trail of the hoodlums.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations also went there immediately for on the spot assessment of the incident and all Police teams were put on red alert. Efforts intensified to arrest the hoodlums,pls.
He expressed that investigation has commenced to determine the cause of the attack. He also stated that the details of the officer allegedly killed has not yet been confirmed.
