The Sultan who was on a three day visit to Osun state, made this statement at the Ooni’s palace in Ile Ife, at a dinner on Thursday, stressing that the unity of the country was sacrosanct and must be protected by all stakeholders.
lauding the brotherly bond among the traditional rulers in the country, he described the traditional institution as the most cohesive and united in the country.
“We must do everything to maintain the unity of Nigeria. We must stick together as one at all times. Politicians come and go with their political talks, but traditional rulers remain. We should be stronger, more united to serve our people better,” he said.
The sultan further described the host governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, as his “former boss, brother and confidant” whom he met in 1978 in the Nigerian Army when he was adjutant to the governor.
Oyinlola, while giving his address, stated that the traditional institution is a stabilising factor in the country while he expressed hope that they would continue to build bridges of understanding across divides.
“When politicians must have messed up everything, the next port of call are the traditional rulers. I therefore believe that we must not wait for trouble to come before we go to them,” Oyinlola said.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, also canvassed for unity among the different ethnic groups in the country as he lauded the sultan for being nationalistic in his outlook.
