Right but then, it depends on one another's beliefs and perceptions. In traditional, the girl is handed in closed circles (fmly & closed frnds). In white marraige, my belief is that  God and wider audience witness ur engagement vows. Expensiveness is what WE put it for we want to 'show off' wealth which is optional. What stops one from using the same dresses used for outing to conduct wedding? What stops one frm sharing the same daily meals with others during wedding or using one's parlour for reception? A wedding can be celebrated in a normal church service or in close circles if couple so wish. The most important aspect here is the significance of the event and not how splendid it was.
