Some government-owned properties as well as non-oil assets would be sold by the federal government to fund the 2021 budget.

The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, disclosed this during the budget presentation ceremony which was done virtually on Tuesday, January 12.

According to her budget presentation titled ‘Public Presentation of 2021 FGN Approved Budget – Breakdown and Highlights’ which has been shared online, the revenue generated from the sale of these assets will be used to fund the deficit of the budget.

The document however did not state the assets to be sold, neither did it state the expected revenue from the sales

In November 2020, the Bureau of Public Enterprise in a document presented to the Senate committee on Privatization disclosed that the Federal government plans to sell the Integrated Power Plants in Geregu, Omotosho, and Calabar at N434 billion in 2021.

The document presented indicated plans by the Federal government to also concession the National Arts Theatre, Tafawa Balewa Square, and all the River Basin Development Authorities at N836 million while the National Stadium in Lagos, the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, and two others were pegged for concessioning at N100 million.

President Buhari had on December 31, 2020, signed the N13.58 trillion budget for 2021.

First in Nigeria history, to sell government properties to finance budget. What a shame!. Yet the government is still lying that things are moving well in the country. Where are monies recovered from looters, yahoo-yahoo boys, money contributed for Covid-19 from European countries and well-meaning Nigerians, Money borrowed from China and world bank? If all these monies can not finance 2021 budget, is it selling of government properties that will finance the budget? The truth has not been said. Besides, which government property and who are those to buy it? APC government should not bring anarchy in the country, squandering is not rulership or leadership. The country is boiling, those in the helm of affairs should think twice. Allah Kiyayi

Irresponsible government. First of all, tell Nigerians one government property that is functional, let alone selling it to fund 2021 budget. You are all disgraceful and shameless. All the monies stolen/looted from Nigeria from 1999 to date should be enough to take good care of innocent suffering Nigerians. When you run a nation without the fear of God, wait for consequences. The wrath of the almighty God spares no one.

Can you now see why the Pigeons refused to fly? Nnamdi Kanu has said it long time ago that this man came to kill to steal to suddan and to destroy. We are seeing it with our own eyes!

States can buy those federal government assets instead of private buyers
