The International Labour Organisation (ILO) is to assist Nigeria in the implementation of the Global Jobs Pact which is aimed at wealth creation in line with the Seven-Point Agenda of the present administration.

The Special Adviser to the ILO, Director-General and Co-ordinator of the Global Jobs Pact (GJP), Mr David Lamotte, disclosed this when he met with the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Chukwuemeka Wogu, to finalise the implementation strategy of the jobs pact.

He stated that his visit to Nigeria was to prepare the minds of stakeholders in the labour sub-sector and also enlighten them on the implementation strategies for the pact which would help in reducing unemployment in the country.

Lamotte also said that he would use his visit to sensitise labour constituents on the ILO Executive Director, Mr Jose Manuel Salazar-Xirinach’s visit to Nigeria early next year to assess Nigeria’s readiness for the implementation of the pact.

He noted that the collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Productivity became very necessary since the ministry was central to the implementation process, especially in terms of policy formulations and implementation.
