Nobel laureate, professor Wole Soyinka, on Thursday lamented the many unresolved assasination in the country in the last decade, describing politics in Nigeria within the period as a bloody one.

Soyinka said this statement in Lagos at the launch of a book, Microseconds Away From Death written by former Chief Press Secretary to the Ogun State Governor, Mr. Wale Adedayo. Soyinka was the chairman of the occasion.

The new book is an expose of various clandestine and fetish activities in which the author participated while he was in the service of Governor Gbenga Daniel.

Soyinka said, “I just read Debo Bashorun’s book which talked about some facts into Dele Giwa’s death. No matter how late, a lot of truth will eventually come out. A lot of assassination and attempted assassination have gone on. In fact, it has been a bloody decade. Of all these high profile murders, amazingly, none has been solved. It is really amazing. Clues are strewn all over the paces but we see them neglected. However, in some cases, suspected murderers are even sprung out of jail and stand elections right from their prison cell and are catapulted straight to some of the most powerful places in the law making houses of this nation.”

He, however, declined comments on raging national issues but announced that he would be convening a town hall meeting in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, next month.

Also at the launch is former governor of Ogun State Aremo Olusegun Osoba, he attended the launch, not because he was seeking vengeance from his successor who disrespected him, but because the book was factual and reportorial.

According to him, he also attended because he wanted to forgive (Adedayo) of the curse he placed on him when he Adedayo was using propaganda against him.

“My reason was based on the fact was that I had a rough treatment from Otunba Gbenga Daniel. If i accuse him of disrespect to the office of the governor, I should not come here and disrespect the office even though I don’t like his person. I thought the book was going to insult Gbenga Daniel and I didn’t want to come here abusing and insulting a sitting governor even though I disagree with him totally. The book was factual and a good report of an event. It was not in any way abusive of Gbenga Daniel. The facts are well stated and as a reporter myself, I know we honour and worship facts.”

Also at the occasion were Senator Ibikunle Amosun. Amosun encouraged Adedayo to come up with a sequel and write more revealing facts.

Adedayo said he wrote the book because he wanted to documents facts and put them in public domain for the benefit of those who would occupy similar offices in future. He said the book does not even contain up to 20 per cent of what actually transpired but he removed a lot of details to save heads that could have rolled as a result.

Am waiting for God to save us from the hands of these wolves who find their way into high political positions. Until then, my friends forget about Nigeria moving forward or getting better.
