A 16-year-old girl was Tuesday remanded by an Ilorin Magistrate’s Court for allegedly setting her colleague ablaze.
The incident occurred following a misunderstanding between them.
The colleague, Fatimon Jako, reportedly died as a result of the incident,
The defendant, who is an apprentice at one Joseph Friday patent medicine shop, reportedly stormed the room of the deceased while she was asleep, poured petrol on her, then ignited matches to burn her alive.
The deceased was reportedly rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for treatment but was later confirmed dead by the doctor as a result of the severe burns she suffered.
The defendant, during investigation, reportedly confessed to the crime saying she had a minor misunderstanding with the deceased which resulted in malice by the two of them.
Prosecutor Inspector Sekunda Olayide, informed the court that the matter is a capital offence and that she could not be admitted to bail.
Magistrate F. O. Olokoyo, only took cognisance of the case while the matter was adjourned to August 30th 2021, pending the outcome of advice by the state Ministry of Justice.
