Federal Civil Servants in Abuja who have not taken the COVID-19 vaccine were barred from entering their offices on Wednesday, Dec 1. The Federal Government had set a deadline of December 1 for civil servants to take the COVID-19 vaccine. As of Tuesday, Nov. 31, there was a rush at different COVID-19 vaccination centres in Abuja as staff tried to get vaccinated before the deadline. Those who didn't meet the deadline were barred from entering their offices today.

Recall that the Boss Mustapha-led presidential steering committee on COVID-19 had announced in October that civil servants without proof of vaccination would not be allowed to access government buildings from December 1, 2021. The directive from Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, reads: "Federal Government employees shall be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination, or present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result done within 72 hours to gain access to their offices in all locations within Nigeria and our Missions".

Mr Mustapha had said the decision was taken in the best interest of Nigerians and to prevent the spread of the pandemic in the country.
