Sokoto businessman Anas Bello Tangaza has been sentenced to one year imprisonment misappropriating the sum of N1.49 million realised from the sale of motorcycles.
According to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Tangaza was entrusted with 7 units of Daylong Motorcycles for hire purchase on an agreed total sum of N2,480,000.00 by one Muazu Yusuf between 2020 and 2021.
But he only only remitted the sum of N989,000.00and dishonestly misappropriated the motorcycles which outstanding balance is N1,491,000.00 in violation of the mode in which the trust is to be discharged.
All efforts to get him pay up the balance proved abortive.
EFCC said Tangaza thus commit the offence of criminal breach of trust contrary to Section 300 of the Sokoto State Penal Code Law 2019 and punishable under Section 301 of the same law.
He pleaded guilty to the one-count charge when it was read to him.
Based on his plea, Justice Mohammed convicted and sentenced Tangaza to one year imprisonment.
He also ordered him to pay restitution in the sum of N1,491,000.00 to the victim through the EFCC.
The one count charge against Tangaza reads: “That you Anas Bello Tangaza sometimes between 2020 and 2021 at Sokoto within the Judicial Division of the High Court of Justice of Sokoto State while being entrusted with 7 units of Daylong Motorcycles for hire purchase on an agreed total sum of N2,480,000.00 by one Muazu Yusuf, only remitted the sum of N989,000.00and dishonestly misappropriated the motorcycles which outstanding balance is N1,491,000.00 in violation of the mode in which the trust is to be discharged and thereby committed the offence of criminal breach of trust contrary to Section 300 of the Sokoto State Penal Code Law 2019 and punishable under Section 301 of the same law”.
