Governor Ahamdu Fintiri of Adamawa State has alleged a plan by Boko Haram terrorists to regroup and form a base for operations in the state.

The governor made the allegation at the Government House in Yola on Wednesday while receiving the newly posted Brigade Commander of the 23rd Armoured Brigade in Yola, Brigadier General Mohammed Jibrin Gambo.

“Intelligence report so far reveals that the terrorists hope to set up their base in Hong and Maiha local government areas of the state,” the governor said.

He added however that security agencies were monitoring the development to ensure that the group never succeeds in actually establishing any base in the state.

He charged the new brigade commander of the 23rd Amoured Brigade to help the state address internal security challenges.

He said, “I believe you are capable of facing the challenges ahead of us. We expect your cooperation, to have good synergy with the other security agencies so that together we can combat crime and criminality,” Fintiri told his guest.

Daily Post recalls that Boko Haram had a firm hold on the northern part of Adamawa State in 2014 when it seized and controlled seven local government areas for some months.

The LGAs that Boko Haram subdued that time included the Hong and Maiha that Governor Fintiri has just mentioned.

The others included Mubi North, Mubi South, Gombi, Michika and Madagali LGAs.

After the seven LGAs were liberated between late 2014 and early 2015, the Boko Haram elements have occasionally launched attacks in some communities of those northern Adamawa LGAs, especially Gombi, Hong, Michika and Madagali LGAs.
