Mason Greenwood has been remanded in custody after a district judge found he had breached bail conditions over allegations of attempted rape and other offences.

Greenwood, 21, is due before Manchester Crown Court on November 21.

Greenwood had been on bail until Saturday, when he breached his bail conditions and prosecutors decided to charge him.

The former England international appeared in court on Monday after being charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault.

Greenwood spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address at the beginning of the hearing.

The court then heard the details of the charges against him.

The attempted rape is said to have happened in October 2021, the assault in December 2021, and the controlling and coercive behaviour between November 2018 and October this year.

District Judge Mark Hadfield rules that Mason Greenwood will remain remanded in custody until case moves to Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on Nov 21. Greenwood was led out of court by officers.

Mason Greenwood: Charges before the Court

Janet Potter, the Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West, said:

"The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge Mason Greenwood, 21, with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

"All three counts relate to the same complainant.

"Specialist rape prosecutors from CPS North West's complex casework unit authorised the charges following a review of a file of evidence received from Greater Manchester Police.

"The defendant's first court appearance will take place on Monday 17 October at Greater Manchester magistrates' court.

"The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has a right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice those proceedings."
