
Cristiano Ronaldo has issued a statement after Manchester United confirmed on Tuesday that they had terminated his contract. Ronaldo, 37, end his ties with United by conducting an interview on Talk TV in which he said he felt “betrayed” by the club. In the aftermath of the bombshell interview, the Red Devils explored their legal options and confirmed that they had released the Portuguese.
In response Ronaldo, in a statement posted on his Twitter handle, said: “Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early.
“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge.“I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.” The former Real Madrid star is currently in Qatar with Portugal as they prepare to face Ghana in their World Cup opener on Thursday.
