Young blogger, Isah Aliyu Omota has been arrested by the police following reports from Natasha Akpoti, a kogi Central senatorial aspirant, on alleged defamation of Character.
He was arrested on Wednesday for publishing defamatory statements against the Kogi Central Peoples Democratic Party Senatorial candidate, Barr. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Aliyu and his group of friends through their blog, Ebira4real, published defamatory statements against Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan which are deemed injurious to the person of the PDP senatorial candidate.
On November 5, 2022, the trolls through their blog, Ebira4real, published that the PDP senatorial candidate blackmailed her husband into marrying her and labeled her a “home breaker.”
On November 10, 2022, Aliyu and his group of friends also published a video of some women who called the PDP senatorial candidate “a husband snatcher ” and other unprintable names, alleging that she is not welcomed in her husband’s place. The women also called on her constituents not to vote for her during the upcoming senatorial election.
These and other several defamatory publications coordinated by the online trolls behind Ebira4real are against the ethics of journalism and violation of section 373 of the Nigeria criminal code which prohibits publication of any defamatory matter.
This has however not gone well with Kogites who have accused Natasha of intimidation.
The blogger who shared a referenced post on a kogi blog, “Ebira4real”, was arrested shortly thereafter and has spent several days in cell.
Barr. Natasha has been accused by Kogites of using police intimidation against social media activists and bloggers who share any negative statements about her.
