
A misunderstanding emanating from the sharing of $3,800 obtained from a Yahoo transaction has led to the kidnapping of a 400-level Science Laboratory Technology student at Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG).
A press release signed and made available to journalists by the Bauchi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil outlined the details of the incident.
According to him: “The suspects kidnapped Ojo Tobi David, 23, a 400-level student of SLT Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG), from Federal Low-Cost Housing Estate of Azare Town, Bauchi State.
“After kidnapping the victim, the suspects snatched a Toyota Camry 2010 with Reg No. KYW-925-SB, took their victim inside and swiftly headed to the Misau Road Azare.
“On receipt of the distress call, the soldiers stationed at the Azare/Misau military checkpoint responded immediately and intercepted the stolen vehicle alongside the suspects. Meanwhile, the victim was rescued unhurt.”
The police spokesman further disclosed that eight different phones, a knife, and assorted charms were found in the suspects’ possession.
He added:
“A preliminary investigation at Divisional Police Headquarters Azare indicates that the crux of the matter was a result of a misunderstanding over the sharing of 3800 US dollars obtained in a Yahoo transaction.
“The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Bauchi for further investigation.”
