Operatives of the Police Special Fraud Unit, PSFU, Ikoyi, Lagos, South West, Nigeria have arrested Professor Yusufu Ameh Obaje, 74, a former chaplain, Sanni Abimbola Olive, 39, a Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and charged them before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island for allegedly obtaining the sum of N34m under false pretence.

Police alleged that the defendants connived and obtained the money from the Complainant, Mr Adetunji Teluwo with the promise to use the money to transact oil and gas business for him to make a profit, but that the defendants failed to transact the business, and instead converted the money to their use.

The defendants were charged before the court on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence and fraud.

Police Counsel, Henry Obiazi told the court that the defendants committed the offence in March 2020 in Lagos.

Obiazi informed the court that the defendants with the intent to defraud collected the sum of N34m from the complainant with the promise to help him use the money to transact oil and gas business for him to make profit.

He said after the defendants collected the money from the complainant, they instead converted the money to their use and failed to fulfil the promise.

Obiazi said the offences, the defendants committed were punishable under Sections 411 and 314 (3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and the Magistrate, O. S. Abioye granted them bail and adjourned the case till 5 September 2023 for the continuation of trial.
