The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike has announced the revocation of 167 land plots in districts of the nation’s capital, Abuja.
The affected areas include Maitama, Gudu, Wuye (with the highest number of revocations at 41), Katampe, Katampe Extension, Wuse 2, Jabi, Utako, Idu Industrial Zone, and Asokoro (with the second highest number of revocations at 39).
The FCT Administration issued a notice in Abuja, citing the refusal or failure of land allottees to develop their plots as the reason for the revocations.
The notice, signed by Permanent Secretary Mr. Olusade Adesola, invoked the powers vested in the Minister by Section 28(5)(a) & (b) of the Land Use Act 1978.
Some of the revoked plots in Maitama included names like Liyel Imoke, Musa Aboki Egu, Hassan Hadejia, and Ishaya Baba.
In Jabi, Sam Nda-Isaiah and Donubari Josephine Kogbara were among the allottees of revoked plots. Katampe district had allottees including Peter Gregory Obi and BUA International.
Other revoked plots were associated with names such as Julius Berger Nigeria, Honeywell Construction, Uffot Joseph Ekaette, Shittu Mohammed, Udoma Udo Udoma, Kanu Agabi, Niki Niki Tobi, Ishaku Bello, and others.
Nyesom Wike, since taking office, has been committed to restoring the master plan of the territory and revoking plots that have remained undeveloped or for which ground rents have not been paid for years.
The Minister previously gave a two-week grace period for allottees to settle their ground rents, warning of revocation for non-compliance.
