Tragedy struck on Wednesday, February 21, when a boat accident occurred at Powerline, Ikoyi Link Bridge, resulting in the loss of two lives and the rescue of 15 individuals.
The boat, which was carrying seventeen passengers and en route to Ikorodu, suffered a sudden collapse due to a lone accident.
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), confirming the incident, attributed the crash to a surge in tide. According to LASWA's statement, the boat collided with a high-tension pole submerged in water, leading to its capsizing.
LASWA further disclosed that two individuals, a male and a female, lost their lives in the accident, while 15 others were safely rescued. The deceased female was recovered from the water, and despite efforts by LRU paramedics, was pronounced dead upon arrival at LASWA's head office in Falomo. The female victim's remains have been secured for further handling by SEHMU officials. Meanwhile, search operations are ongoing to locate the body of the male victim.
