Tensions rise within the Labour Party as the faction led by Alhaji Lamidi Apapa announces its candidate for the forthcoming Edo State governorship election, just hours after Barrister Olumide Akpata was declared the party's candidate by the Julius Abure-led national leadership.

The emergence of Barrister Anderson Uwadiae Asemota as the candidate for the Apapa-led faction adds a new layer of complexity to the political landscape of Edo State. Asemota, along with his running mate, Barrister Monday Ojore Mawah, was officially submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in a letter dated February 22, 2024.

The letter, signed by Alhaji Lamidi Apapa as the Acting National Chairman and Alhaji Saleh Lawan as the Acting National Secretary, confirms the faction's rejection of Akpata's candidacy and asserts their authority in selecting their own representatives for the upcoming election.

Apapa, when contacted for comment, confirmed the authenticity of the letter, stating, "Yes it is true. The letter is from us."

The swift action by the Apapa-led faction sets the stage for a contentious battle within the Labour Party, with two rival candidates vying for the governorship seat in Edo State. As the election draws nearer, the competing factions must navigate internal divisions and external pressures to present a unified front to voters.

With political alliances shifting and tensions running high, the outcome of the Edo State governorship election remains uncertain, as the Labour Party grapples with internal strife amidst the broader political landscape.

So this Lamidi Oshodi or Apapa is still alive. I trust Edo people. They will stone his candidate to death.
