The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed a distressing incident involving the abduction of three individuals and the subsequent rescue of one person after armed bandits attacked a mosque. According to a statement issued by the Command's spokesman, ASP Yazid Abdulahi, the incident occurred on February 29, 2024, at approximately 05:30 am in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The statement outlined that unidentified armed men, suspected to be armed bandits equipped with sophisticated weapons, infiltrated a Juma'at mosque with the intention of carrying out mass abductions. Fortunately, the worshippers managed to escape, with the exception of three elderly persons who were taken captive and transported to an undisclosed location by the assailants.
Upon receiving the distressing information, the Command's tactical teams swiftly mobilized and launched a search and rescue operation. They tracked the suspected armed bandits close to the Dangajeru forest, prompting the bandits to abandon one of the victims who could not keep up with their pace. This individual was successfully rescued by the authorities.
The operation is ongoing, with efforts focused on rescuing the two remaining victims and apprehending the perpetrators responsible for this heinous act.
