
In a commendable display of swift action, the Nigeria Police Force has announced the successful rescue of 16 pregnant women and eight children from a clandestine baby factory in Aba, Abia State.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Maureen Chinaka, the rescue operation was carried out following diligent intelligence work by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Aba.
Chinaka, in the statement issued to journalists in the state on Friday, refrained from disclosing the specific location of the baby factory to prevent compromising ongoing investigations.
Among those apprehended during the operation were identified as Onyinyechi Okoro and Ekene Okezie, alleged operators of the illicit establishment.
The rescued individuals, whose identities were revealed by Chinaka, include Joy Mathew, Stella Okon, Bella Okon, Idara Emmanuel, Blessing Okon, Blessing Ede, Promise Akpan, Joy Edet, Josephine Asuquo, Glory John, Goodness Peter, Ifeoma Ozoemena, Victoria Robert, Blessed Monday, Victoria Liberty, and Anita Sunday.
Furthermore, the rescued children, comprising five females named China Marvelous, Nancy Sunday, Marvelous Sunday, Martha Ubong, and Deborah Ndifreke, alongside three male children identified as Praise Answer, Goodness Destiny, and Victor Aniebeti, were also removed from the facility.
Chinaka emphasized that the victims were rescued during a well-coordinated raid on March 7, executed by the RRS in Aba, based on credible information.
The PPRO disclosed that the rescued girls and children were found to hail from various regions, including Ihechiowa in Arochukwu LGA and Arondizuogu in Ideato LGA of Imo State, under the care of Mrs. Onyinyechi Okoro.
While investigations into the operations of the baby factory continue, Chinaka urged citizens to remain vigilant and collaborate with law enforcement agencies by providing crucial information on suspicious activities and individuals.
Assuring the public of the police's unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, especially in Abia State, Chinaka reiterated the force's dedication to upholding law and order, promising continued efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
