In a dramatic rescue operation, three teenage girls hailing from Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have been liberated from a suspected trafficking scheme bound for Ghana.
Identified as Ogah Chinecherem from Ohatekwe Amagu, Odor Favour from Abina Amagu, and Osinachi Nweke Umanyi from Ndioduma Omege Echara, these young girls found themselves ensnared in a perilous journey orchestrated by Mrs. Abigail Nweke, a resident of the same local government.
Reports indicate that the girls were entrusted to a Cross River woman for transportation to Ghana, but their fate took a fortuitous turn when they were intercepted by vigilant immigration officers during a border patrol operation in Lagos.
The Chairman of Ikwo Development Union, Lagos branch, Mr. Meba Igwe, swiftly intervened upon learning of the distressing situation, orchestrating the rescue of the imperiled teenagers.
Following their rescue, the girls were handed over to the Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Barrister Sunday Nwankwo, at the local government headquarters. Expressing gratitude to Igwe for his prompt action, Nwankwo emphasized the importance of parental vigilance in safeguarding children against such nefarious activities.
Assuring comprehensive support for the rescued girls, Nwankwo pledged to facilitate their enrollment in suitable educational or vocational programs to ensure their holistic well-being.
In a heartening conclusion to the ordeal, the girls were reunited with their families as they were handed over to their respective Ward Councillors for safe return to their homes, marking the end of a harrowing chapter and the beginning of a new dawn of hope and resilience.
