The Osun State Police Command has apprehended four suspects allegedly involved in the conspiracy and murder of a 45-year-old woman for money ritual in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to SP Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson of the command, the suspects were paraded in Osogbo on Friday, April 19, 2024.

Opalola disclosed that the arrest of the suspects followed a report of a missing person filed by the son of the victim at the Apomu Police Division in Osun.

"On March 18, at 5:10 p.m., a complainant reported at Apomu Division that on March 13, at about 10:00 a.m., his mother, Usman Aminat, 45, left home for Iyana Ajia, Ibadan, Oyo State to visit Onifade Oyekanmi," said the PPRO.

"He stated that since his mother left home, her cell phones were switched off, her whereabouts were unknown, and he strongly suspected that Oyekanmi, an herbalist, was involved in his mother’s disappearance."

Opalola explained that Onifade Oyekanmi was subsequently arrested, and the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Osogbo, Osun, for further investigation.

The confession of the primary suspect led to the arrest of three other individuals, all of whom confessed to their involvement in the crime, revealing their conspiracy to use the victim for money-making rituals.

"Search warrants were executed on the houses and premises of the suspects, leading to the recovery of three bottles containing black substances suspected to be burnt human parts, two cutlasses, a large black clay pot, and some black soaps," Opalola disclosed.

She further mentioned that a female neighbor, who assisted one of the suspects in concealing his share of the substance, was also arrested but later granted administrative bail due to her nursing a four-month-old baby.

The suspects confessed to strangling the victim to death in Oyekanmi's house, dismembering her body, and mixing her intestines with those of animals and herbs in a black clay pot, which they subsequently burned to black powder and shared among themselves.

"Onifade equally added that he burnt the two cell phones belonging to the deceased after killing her to evade being traced," Opalola added.

Opalola assured that the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation, while also urging residents to promptly report any suspicious activities to the police.
