Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal with the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, seeking to overturn his conviction by a Lagos State High Court for the segxwal assault of a minor.
The case, which has drawn significant attention, involves allegations against the actor.
In July 2022, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and segxwal Offences Court sentenced Baba Ijesha to five years imprisonment for the said offense.
However, Baba Ijesha maintains that he was set up and that he merely followed a script provided by a colleague, Damilola Adekoya (PW1).
The Director of Public Prosecution, Dr Babajide Martins, disagrees, urging the court to dismiss the appeal.
The case now rests with the Court of Appeal, which will review the evidence and arguments to determine the fate of Baba Ijesha’s conviction.
