Katsina State Governor, Dr. Umaru Dikko Radda, has revealed a shocking case of complicity in banditry involving a local leader. A village head in Guga village, Bakori Local Government Area, accepted N700,000 from bandits, granting them free access to attack his community, resulting in the deaths of approximately 30 residents.

Governor Radda, speaking to Saturday Vanguard, disclosed that the arrest of the village head was part of broader efforts to tackle insecurity in the state. He highlighted how some locals, for as little as N2,000, provide information to bandits about their neighbors or relatives, further exacerbating the security crisis.

“I will say yes, we have arrested a village head in Guga village in Bakori local government of the state because of his involvement with the bandits. He was given N700,000 to allow bandits access into his village to kill over 30 people,” Governor Radda stated.

The governor reiterated his earlier assertion that banditry has become a business venture for some individuals, including government officials and traditional rulers. He stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of insecurity and not shielding wrongdoers from the consequences of their actions.

“There is no set category of people who are not involved in this. Different categories of people were arrested on allegations of being involved in banditry, criminality, and many other vices even here in Katsina. We have arrested security operatives, government officials, and traditional rulers. It is high time we told ourselves the truth,” Governor Radda emphasized.

Governor Radda also highlighted the efforts of his administration to combat insecurity. In the past year, the state’s joint security task force neutralized 35 bandits, arrested 363, and successfully rescued 565 kidnap victims. Despite these efforts, he acknowledged that challenges remain due to the presence of "bad eggs" within various organizations.

“We must examine ourselves and deal with the bad eggs among us. Hiding the truth only perpetuates the problem. We need to correct our mistakes and move forward,” he urged.

The governor commended the security agencies for their sacrifices and efforts in the fight against insecurity, while also calling for greater transparency and accountability to effectively address the ongoing crisis.
