Protesters stormed the Ikeja Underbridge, Lagos, on Wednesday morning, June 12, as the country marks the 2024 Democracy Day.

The protesters chanted solidarity songs and held placards and banners.

Some of the placards had inscriptions like: "President Tinubu, let the poor breathe," "For another general strike with mass protest now," "Payment of living wage to all Nigerian workers now."

Heavy security presence was noticed at the venue, including policemen and officials of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps who stood guard close to the protesters.

Some civil society groups such as the Take It Back Movement, the Education Rights Campaign, the Coalition for Revolution and the Socialist Workers League are spearheading the protest.
