Manchester United have confirmed that Erik ten Hag will continue as manager following an end-of-season review, despite a challenging campaign in the Premier League.
The Dutch manager's future was uncertain after United's disappointing league performance. However, the season concluded on a positive note with an FA Cup victory against Manchester City.
The decision to retain Ten Hag was made after a thorough review by new co-owners INEOS, led by Sir Dave Brailsford. A source told ESPN that the "clear conclusion" of the review was to keep Ten Hag at the helm.
"Constructive discussions" about the review's findings have also led to talks about extending Ten Hag's contract, which is set to expire in 2025.
Ten Hag, 54, had a strong start at Old Trafford, finishing third in the Premier League and winning the Carabao Cup in his first season. Despite this, his second season saw the team fall to eighth place, their lowest-ever Premier League finish, and exit the Champions League at the group stage.
Nonetheless, the review concluded that Ten Hag should continue as manager, and negotiations are underway for a contract extension, which could see his tenure extended by an additional 12 months.
