
Suspected bandits have abducted Reverend Father Mikah Suleiman, the Parish Priest of St. Raymond Catholic Church in Damba, Gusau, Zamfara State, in a pre-dawn raid on Saturday.
The distressing incident was confirmed by Very Reverend Father Nuhu Iliya, Acting Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, who expressed deep concern over the priest's abduction from his residence at the Father's rectory.
According to a statement issued by Father Nuhu Iliya, "With sadness in our hearts, we write to inform the general public of the kidnap of one of our priests, Revd. Fr. Mikah Suleiman. This sad event occurred in the early hours of today, Saturday, June 22nd, 2024."
Father Mikah, who serves as the Parish Priest of St. Raymond Catholic Church, Damba, has become the latest victim in a series of kidnappings that have plagued Zamfara State in recent times.
The Zamfara State Police Command, through its spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the abduction, stating that Father Mikah was forcefully taken from his residence around 3:00 am. Abubakar assured the public that a Police tactical squad has been deployed to track down the perpetrators and secure the safe release of the priest.
In response to the abduction, Father Nuhu Iliya urged Christians and all people of goodwill to pray fervently for the quick and safe return of Father Mikah. The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto and concerned authorities are working tirelessly to ensure the priest's safe rescue and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The abduction of Reverend Father Mikah Suleiman has heightened concerns over security in Zamfara State, where incidents of banditry and kidnapping have been rampant despite efforts by security agencies to curb the menace.
