Adeyemi Ikuforiji, a former speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, and his personal assistant, Oyebode Atoyebi, have been acquitted of a N338.8 million money laundering charge by a federal high court.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had charged Ikuforiji and Atoyebi with 54 counts related to alleged money laundering.

The charges accused them of accepting cash payments totaling N338.8 million from the House of Assembly without involving a financial institution.

Initially arraigned in 2012 before Judge Okechukwu Okeke, both defendants were acquitted on Monday, June 24.
