The Osun State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of a kidnapping case from August 2023, arresting one John Olowosaye for his alleged involvement in the crime. This revelation was made by Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the Osun police command, during a press briefing at the Police Command headquarters in Osogbo on Friday.
According to Opalola, Olowosaye conspired with Olalekan Oyeyemi, also known as Emir, in the abduction of individuals in Ede. The victims were reportedly taken to Balogun Area in Osogbo, where a ransom of N2.6 million was paid into Oyeyemi's account.
"The Police Anti-cultism Unit, working tirelessly since the report of the abduction, successfully arrested the suspects on July 3, 2024," Opalola stated. "Investigations revealed that Olowosaye collaborated with Olalekan Dauda Oyeyemi to abduct individuals in Ede and subsequently demand ransom."
She further emphasized that Olowosaye would face charges in court after the completion of the investigation.
In addition to Olowosaye's arrest, several other suspects were paraded for various offenses across the state. These included armed robbery, theft, membership in secret cults, conspiracy, abduction, unlawful possession of firearms, and possession of harmful substances.
Among those paraded were Abubakar Ayomide, Adewumi Isaac, Ekene Sunday, Adesunmibola Afeez, Sodiq Adeyemi, Gbenga Oluwaseun, Philip Oluwaseun, Saka Kabiru, Lateef Musa Olalekan, Ogungbemi Afeez, John Fatai, Ede Marvellous, Elise Peter, Felix Etim, Olalekan Amos, Akinyeme Simileoluwa, and Ajao Blessing. They were arrested for offenses ranging from armed robbery to possession of firearms and membership in unlawful societies.
Opalola listed the recovered exhibits, which included firearms, vehicles, motorcycles, smartphones, laptops, charms, and suspected cannabis, emphasizing the command's commitment to maintaining peace and security in Osun State.
The spokesperson urged residents to continue cooperating with the police by providing timely and relevant information to enhance their operations against criminal activities in the state.
