In a grim turn of events, the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) community is reeling from the discovery of the lifeless body of a 100-level female student, identified as Favour, in Enugu State.
Favour, a student in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, went missing after attending her chemistry practical on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the incident.
Her body was tragically found behind Eni-Njoku male hostel on Friday evening, a discovery that has sent shockwaves across the campus. A disturbing video circulating on social media shows her remains dumped in what appears to be a gutter.
Sky Okafor, a pharmacy student residing in the hostel, described the scene as a shock to everyone, speculating that the body was likely dumped there by her assailants. The corpse was reportedly removed the following Saturday morning.
"Iyke Agbo, another hostel resident, mentioned that the discovery was made around 7 p.m., noting the body emitted a foul odor, deterring him from approaching closely," said Okafor.
University officials, including spokesperson Okwun Omeaku and Dean of Students Affairs Edwin Omeje, have yet to comment on the incident despite repeated attempts to reach them. An unnamed university official acknowledged being informed about the incident via social media, indicating that heavy rains in Nsukka earlier in the week might have contributed to the unfortunate occurrence.
"The university management is expected to assess the situation and issue an official statement by Monday," the official stated, emphasizing that the circumstances surrounding Favour's death remain unclear pending further investigation.
The tragic incident has cast a pall over the UNN community, prompting calls for swift action and justice as students and faculty await official clarification from the university administration.
