In a brazen attack early Saturday morning, bandits kidnapped a pregnant woman and four other individuals in Garam, a community in Niger State.
Garam, which shares a boundary with Kuduru in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has experienced a series of violent attacks between December 2023 and February 2024, prompting the deployment of security personnel to the area. This brought a brief period of peace, which was shattered by the latest assault.
According to a resident who requested anonymity, the bandits arrived at approximately 3 a.m. and targeted the victims' home directly. The attackers did not fire their weapons to avoid alerting security forces stationed in the area.
"We learnt that they came at 3 a.m. They kidnapped five people, including a pregnant woman, her child, and her husband," the resident reported. "They forced their way into the building by breaking down the door. They came silently without shooting any gun like they used to do."
The community remains on edge as the authorities work to address the ongoing security threats.
