Oladip Oshodi, a 48-year-old man from Dagenham, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for molesting and assaulting a woman, who escaped by jumping from a window to reach safety.
On Friday, July 5, Oshodi appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court, where he was convicted of multiple charges, including two counts of rape, administering a noxious substance, threats to kill, grievous bodily harm, and controlling coercive behavior.
The Metropolitan Police reported that Oshodi was apprehended on July 12, 2023, by detectives from the East Area Public Protection Unit. He remained in custody throughout the legal proceedings and was found guilty on all counts on May 10 of this year.
The harrowing incident occurred on the evening of July 11, 2023, at Oshodi's home in the Mayesbrook area of Dagenham. Despite the victim’s clear refusal of his advances, Oshodi violently assaulted and raped her twice. During the ordeal, he also beat her severely. The victim managed to escape by jumping out of a ground-floor window, collapsing in the street where concerned passersby helped her to safety and contacted the police.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment and received support from specialist officers.
Detective Constable Serena McGhee described Oshodi as a dangerous individual, commending the victim and witnesses for their bravery. She expressed relief that Oshodi would now serve a long sentence, ensuring he would no longer pose a threat to women.
PC Kayleigh Grafton, a specialist officer working with segxwal offense victims, highlighted the survivor's desperate bid for freedom when she jumped into the street. Grafton expressed hope that the severe sentence would encourage other victims of segxwal offenses to come forward, emphasizing that support and safety measures are in place for them.
Oshodi showed no remorse throughout the investigation and trial, but his conviction ensures he faces the full consequences of his actions.
