The Chief Magistrates Court in Ikorodu has adjourned proceedings on a DNA application filed to determine the paternity of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. The decision follows a breakdown in settlement negotiations between the Aloba family and Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi.

A statement from the family’s legal representative, Monisola Odumosu, obtained by PUNCH Online on Friday, detailed the court’s direction for both parties to pursue alternative dispute resolution during the July 9, 2024, hearing. Despite these efforts, talks fell apart due to unspecified external factors.

Emmanuel Oroko of Hillceetee Partners, representing Joseph Aloba, and M.K.O Orire Esq., representing the respondent, both confirmed the failed negotiations during the resumed hearing. As a result, the presiding Magistrate, His Honour Mrs. A.B. Olagbegi-Adelabu, postponed the suit to allow time for pending applications related to the DNA test to be heard. The court encouraged both sides to continue seeking a settlement before the next hearing.

The Aloba family initially requested the DNA test amid public speculation about the child’s paternity following Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. The family's insistence on the test is rooted in the contentious circumstances surrounding the singer’s death, which have fueled social media debates.

The statement from Odumosu also clarified that no official spokesperson has been appointed by the family, disavowing any unauthorized statements made without the legal team's approval.
