
At least five people have been killed in an attack by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen in the Egwuma community, Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
Reliable sources informed DAILY POST that the attack occurred on Sunday afternoon.
A community member, who requested anonymity for security reasons, confirmed that the assailants were herdsmen. According to the source, the attackers arrived around 2:00 pm and launched a deadly assault on the village.
“Youths searched the bush and recovered five dead bodies of villagers,” the source reported. The community youths have since mobilized to defend against further attacks, and security agencies have been alerted.
As of the time of this report, sources indicated that the attack on Egwuma was still ongoing.
When contacted, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anne, stated that she had not yet been briefed on the incident.
