Two brothers, Saliu Yisa and Saliu Qudri, have been apprehended by the Osun State Police Command for conspiracy, theft, and defrauding a businessman under false pretenses.
During a press briefing in Osogbo on Friday, Police Spokesperson Yemisi Opalola revealed that the brothers, aged 30 and 19, swindled a businessman seeking to invest in cattle rearing. Opalola explained that the elder brother, Yisa, had used the illicit gains to build a house in the Kelebe area of Osogbo.
Opalola recounted, “On July 19, 2024, the complainant approached the CP’s surveillance team, stating he had engaged Saliu Yisa in cattle rearing since 2020, initially providing 27 cows. By 2022, he added another 10 cows, bringing the total to 37. In March 2024, he handed over five more cows and was later persuaded to buy 13 additional cows for the Ileya festival, paying N2,500,000.”
The businessman was shown the cows via video call and verified them in person, marking them with symbols. However, Yisa later removed these symbols and returned the borrowed cows to his brother to deceive and extract money from the investor. The total number of cows handed over to Yisa was 54.
A month ago, the farm manager noticed Yisa's suspicious behavior and visited his residence in the Oni-Oba/Kelebe Area, only to find the cows had vanished, and Yisa was missing. Yisa’s wives claimed ignorance of his whereabouts, which was part of the scheme. Yisa then used his brother Qudri’s phone to inform the complainant that all 54 cows had died without providing any proof.
The police launched an operation, arresting the brothers from their hideout. Yisa confessed to using the money to build a house, and 16 cows were recovered from Qudri, who was rearing them for personal gain.
Opalola concluded that the suspects would face court proceedings once the investigation is complete.
