In a major breakthrough, operatives from the Special Operations Unit of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested Chukwuemaka Obodozie, a notorious Nigerian drug kingpin, during a carefully coordinated raid. The arrest took place in the early hours of Sunday, July 21, at the Cele bus stop along the Oshodi-Apapa expressway in Lagos.
Obodozie, who had just arrived from Ghana via a transport company, was found with 100,000 tablets of tramadol 225mg packed in two bags. This apprehension marks a significant victory for the NDLEA, which has been targeting syndicates involved in smuggling large consignments of opioids into neighboring countries and subsequently into Nigeria.
The arrest followed an extensive five-month surveillance operation focused on Obodozie, as detailed by NDLEA Director of Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a statement released on Sunday. The Special Operations Unit has been particularly active in dismantling networks that distribute drugs in smaller quantities across the nation through transport companies.
This successful operation underscores the NDLEA's commitment to curbing drug trafficking and ensuring public safety by intercepting illegal drug shipments before they infiltrate Nigerian communities.
